Dear UMGC Graduates,
Commencement is our favorite time of the year. It is the time when all of our students’ hard work and dedication is recognized. A time for us to join in the celebration with you, your friends, and your family. Our ceremony today was originally slated to take place as a series of UMGC commencement celebrations hosted around the world this past spring. While we were unable to celebrate this milestone with you in person, we are excited to share in your big day with our Asia Virtual Commencement Ceremony. This virtual ceremony combines the 2020 commencement celebrations for Tokyo, Japan; Okinawa; Seoul, Korea and Guam.
Since 1949, the US military and its active duty and civilian components have sponsored UMGC on overseas military installations. Today, you, the class of two thousand and twenty (2020), are about to join the ranks of over two hundred & fifty-four thousand (254,000) UMGC alumni who -- for more than seven decades -- have taken our classes in every country imaginable, and achieved their dreams.
You may have taken classes online, in the classroom, or via Zoom, but through steadfast determination you powered through to earn your UMGC Associate, Baccalaureate, or Master of Business Administration degree. Many, if not all of you had help along the way to reach this day. You had the encouragement of your spouse, the patience of your children, and the support of your family, friends, co-workers, and others.
It has not been easy, and you have all accomplished something truly remarkable. I know each and every one of you has an extraordinary story, and I could not be more proud to celebrate your achievement.
