UMGC Commencement 2020

UMGC Asia Virtual Commencement

Take the final, ceremonious step in your academic career by accepting your degree from UMGC.

Commencement is more than an academic tradition. It is a jubilant ceremony that closes one chapter of your life and opens a new one.

If you're like a lot of soon-to-be college graduates, you've prevailed over at least a few challenges as you made your way through post-secondary education. We know you've worked hard to reach this significant milestone, and it's time for you to celebrate.

Commencement is a special opportunity to commemorate your achievements as a student and be recognized for what you've accomplished. It is a time to thank family, friends, and others who have helped you along the way. We have had to cancel our in-person commencement ceremonies this year due to the Coronavirus disease. This is the right decision—appropriate and necessary to combat the spread of coronavirus disease and safeguard the health of our community members and guests.

While this is deeply disappointing, Commencement is a milestone for students and an annual highpoint for faculty and staff, an opportunity to celebrate together the hard work and remarkable achievements of graduates like you. We cordially invite all Summer 2019, Fall 2019, and Spring 2020 graduates and their guests to join us for our UMGC Asia Virtual Ceremony on October 24, 2020. Please don't pass up this chance to celebrate your educational milestone. More information on the virtual ceremony will be shared soon! In the meantime, you are still welcome to order regalia for picture-taking, along with commemorative items like diploma frames and tassels.

Dear UMGC Graduates,

Congratulations on reaching this important milestone on the path of lifelong learning! Though we cannot celebrate with you in person, we are with you in spirit, and I know I speak for everyone at University of Maryland Global Campus when I say that it has been our honor to help you in the pursuit of your goals and your dreams.

Today you represent our greatest achievement, and we are so proud to recognize and celebrate your success. I am also honored to offer a special salute to our active-duty servicemembers and veterans of the U.S. military who are graduating today, along with the many medical personnel and first responders on the front lines of our current public health crisis. Your service to our country has earned you the respect and admiration of a grateful nation, and we are so pleased that you selected UMGC as your university of choice.

We are deeply proud of all of you—proud of your achievements, proud of your growth and learning, and proud to welcome you to the ranks of UMGC alumni. Together, we are more than a match for the challenges before us, united by the common goal of making the world a better, brighter place for ourselves, our loved ones, and for all.

Again, congratulations to you and to all who share this special moment with you in person and in spirit.
