Scholarships

Learn about scholarships to help you save on tuition costs at UMGC Asia.

Put your academic goals within reach. UMGC offers more than 100 scholarships to help students like you achieve your educational goals. Each year, we award more than $6 million in scholarship funds to more than 3,500 students.

UMGC foundational scholarships are available to students based on merit and/or financial need. Award amounts vary by scholarship. Specially designated scholarships are available for undergraduate students, graduate students, community college transfers, students in certain academic programs, military servicemembers, veterans, military spouses, and more.

Interested in a UMGC Scholarship?

1. Complete the FAFSA: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, is required for most UMGC foundational scholarships. When you apply for financial aid, you will automatically be pre-screened for scholarship eligibility. (See instructions on how to apply for financial aid at UMGC.)

2. Wait for Notification: If you're eligible for a UMGC foundational scholarship, we'll let you know. Students who have met the minimum GPA and credit requirements will receive an e-mail notifying them of scholarship eligibility via the "To Do" list in MyUMGC. You may even be eligible for more than one scholarship! Notifications usually go out mid-summer. Please note that meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee that you will receive a UMGC scholarship.

3. Apply Early: Scholarship awards are based on funding availability so if you're notified that you're eligible, fill out the universal scholarship application in MyUMGC as soon as possible. It's also important to submit your FAFSA early each year, as many of scholarships can be renewed from year to year if you continue to maintain your eligibility requirements.

Important: You do not need to apply to specific scholarships, as this universal application will be used to find all scholarships that match your specific eligibility.

Note: Employees of UMGC and their dependents, as well as those who receive remission of fees from other institutions, are not eligible to apply for UMGC foundational scholarships or to receive UMGC foundational grants.

Other Scholarship Sources

Third-party (or private) scholarships and grants are funds offered by agencies outside of UMGC. Many organizations like private foundations, clubs, places of worship, professional organizations, non-profits, and Greek organizations have scholarships opportunities they make available to their members or the community.

UMGC does not have any influence over the application or selection process for these types of awards, but we do work with the UMGC students who have received these types of awards (and with the agencies themselves as needed) to receive and apply the scholarship funds you earn from them to your student account here at UMGC according to the agencies’ guidelines.

Examples of agencies that are in this category include Army Emergency Relief, AmeriCorps, and UNCF.
