Apply for Aid at UMGC

UMGC encourages you to apply for financial aid, regardless of your income. You may receive more than you expect! All the forms you need to apply for financial aid and for admission to UMGC are available online.

The FAFSA is Your First Step

Your first step in applying for aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA. UMGC's school code is 011644. For priority consideration, your FAFSA must be received by the established priority deadlines:

  • June 1 (for fall)
  • November 1 (for spring)
  • April 1 (for summer)

We recommend referencing a copy of your 2019 1040/1040A/1040EZ to correctly transfer the numbers from your tax return onto your FAFSA. If you are a dependent student you will also need a copy of your parents' 1040/1040A/1040EZ available to help you complete this form. Students who are married, but filed separately, should complete their FAFSA using both individuals' tax information. We also recommend having all applicable W2s available to help you accurately list your income.

Upon completion of your FAFSA, we highly recommend you request a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS (or an official letter of non-filing if you did not file taxes in 2019). If the Department of Education selects your FAFSA for verification, having this information already processing with the Internal Revenue Service could help expedite the processing of your application at UMGC. These forms should ONLY be sent to UMGC if requested. Any unnecessary information sent to UMGC that was not requested may delay the processing of your application.
