About the General Studies and Specialized Associate's Degree
The Associate of Arts degree requires the completion of a minimum of 60 credits, at least 15 of which must be taken through UMGC. Of these 60 credits, 35 credits must be earned in courses that fulfill the general education requirements. For the remaining 25 credits, you can either choose a general curriculum or one of the specialized curricula outlined below. You must earn a grade of C or higher in all required courses for the chosen curriculum, and you must earn a GPA of 2.0 or higher in all courses taken through UMGC.
If you anticipate seeking a bachelor's degree, you should select courses that will advance that goal.
The Associate of Arts specialized curricula are for adult students who wish to pursue a specific career or educational goal, often as a basis for further study toward the bachelor’s degree. Specialized curricula are recommended but optional within the AA degree in General Studies. You should take careful note of course prerequisites and recommended course sequences. Curricula may be available only in limited geographic areas.
