Air Force GEM Program

EXPLORE MORE OF UMGC

Complete general education requirements with UMGC while you earn a CCAF associate degree.

If you are an Air Force, Space Force, or Guardians servicemember pursuing your associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force, sign up for your general education requirements at University of Maryland Global Campus with the General Education Mobile, also known as GEM, program. Through this program, you can earn 15 of the 64 credits you need for a CCAF associate degree. At UMGC, you can take the general education courses you need and use them to earn your CCAF associate degree.

Plus, if you choose to pursue further education, you can transfer your CCAF associate degree credits toward a bachelor's degree at UMGC.

Get Started in the GEM Program

Search and register for classes by following these steps.

  1. Go to the Air Force Virtual Education Center and view UMGC GEM courses. Enter UMGC in the box for School Name and click search; when the listing for UMGC appears, click on Plan View and then Select Plan (under UMGC's name near the top of the page) to begin the GEM process.
  2. Apply for admission to UMGC.
  3. Register for courses through MyUMGC.  Search the current UMGC Asia schedule to find on-site GEM courses offered in your area, as well as online courses.
  4. Pay for your classes via MyUMGC.

Your application fee can be waived if you apply as a non-degree seeking student and select Community College of the Air Force when asked if you are pursuing an associate degree at an alliance community college. If you later choose to apply for another degree or certificate program at UMGC, you will be required to pay the application fee.

When enrolling in a course, please be sure to complete your Tuition Assistance form within the Air Force Virtual Education Center.

Approved Courses

In the GEM program, you will choose one course from each of the five categories listed below to complete your CCAF associate degree. These UMGC courses are 8 weeks in length. For full UMGC course information, see our course schedule and catalog.
