Prepare to coordinate and manage laboratories in rapidly growing biological and technical fields.

The online bachelor’s degree program in laboratory management at University of Maryland Global Campus is the only one of its kind in the state of Maryland. Developed with input from employers, industry experts, and scholars to meet growing demand in the industry, this program will help you prepare to coordinate the activities that contribute to a well-ordered laboratory by combining in-depth study of scientific concepts and procedures with hands-on laboratory management exercises.

Total Credits Required: 120

Required Major Courses: 36 Credits

You must have completed 15 credits of lower-level coursework in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry, microbiology, or molecular biology, prior to beginning this program.

  • You must have earned these credits at a community college or another appropriate institution.
  • Of these 15 credits, 12 must be in lab science.

Take the following courses at UMGC:

  • (3 Credits, BIOL 325)
  • (3 Credits, BMGT 364)
  • (3 Credits, FINC 331)
  • (3 Credits, NSCI 301)
  • Choose one of the following course options:
    • Two BIOL 486 courses
    • BIOL 486
    • A Workplace Learning course, which must be taken concurrently with a new internship or work project related to your academic program. Prior program approval is required.
  • BIOL 495

Related Required Courses

The following courses may fulfill 8 credits of general education requirements:

  • (4 Credits, BIOL 105)
  • (4 Credits, BIOL 230)

You will need to fulfill 6 credits of related required elective requirements. You can choose from the following course options:

  • Approved science coursework in biotechnology, biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, physics, and virology.
