UMGC Asia offers the Bridge Program to foreign student learners in Japan who have had previous experience in the English language but have not achieved the required proficiency scores to be admitted as regular students.
The five-course sequence (with a sixth, optional course) is designed to improve fundamental speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Academic English for you to achieve a higher level of proficiency and facilitate your transition into the U.S. higher education system. The Bridge Program also aims to orient you to a western-style university so that you will be confident in pursuing additional courses and potentially a full degree with UMGC.
Locations
The Bridge Program is currently established at Iwakuni, Misawa, Sasebo, Yokota, Yokosuka, Zama and in Okinawa and Korea. If the Bridge Program is not available at your location, you may still be admitted to UMGC as a degree-seeking student but you should speak with a Bridge Program representative before submitting your UMGC application for admission.

- Required documents: current documentation of SOFA status, test scores, high school transcripts (English) and/or graduation certificate (English).
- Non-SOFA Status Japanese & Foreign students who wish to take courses with UMGC must meet the required test scores and be approved by their prefectural governmental agency. The corresponding agency for that region will oversee the initial screening of applicants and forward a list of their recommended students to UMGC. These students must have an official certificate of English proficiency from TOEFL, EIKEN, or IELTS (within the last 5 years) prior to admission to the Bridge Program. Upon successful completion of the Bridge Program course sequence, students will be allowed to take regular UMGC undergraduate courses.
- Base Employees (Master Labor Contract - MLC/ Indirect Hire Agreement - IHA) – Required documents: endorsement letter to show base employment, test scores, high school transcripts (English) and/or graduation certificate (English).
- Other foreign students who have attended a U.S. high school and/or completed a degree at a U.S. college or university.
Students who were educated in these countries meet the English language requirement and are not required to take a proficiency test. These individuals may still enroll in the bridge program but must start with the first class and cannot skip around.
- Degree-seeking students must have a TOEFL IBT score of 71 and above, EIKEN Grade Pre-1 or other acceptable proficiency score to be admitted as degree-seeking students. Students in this category may take any UMGC undergraduate course.

ブリッジプログラムの概要
UMGCアジアは、これまで英語学習の経験を有するものの、正規の学生として入学許可となるための能力点数に達していない日本の留学生志望者にブリッジプログラムを提供します。
5つのコース課程（オプションコースでは6番目のコースあり）は、学習者がより高いレベルの能力を達成し、米国での高等教育への移行の手助けとなる学術的英語の基本となるスピーキング、リスニング、リーディング、そしてライティングスキルの上達を図るよう企画されています。ブリッジプログラムは、欧米スタイルの大学に向けたオリエンテーションとなることも目指しており、自信を持ってUMGCでの追加のコースや学位取得を目指すことができるようになります。
場所
ブリッジプログラムは現在、岩国、三沢、佐世保、横田、横須賀、座間および沖縄や韓国でも立ち上げられています。ブリッジプログラムがお住いの場所で提供されていない場合は、学位取得を目指す学生としてUMGCへの入学が許可される場合がありますが、UMGCへの入学願書を提出する前にブリッジプログラムの担当者にご相談いただくべきであると存じます。

- UMGC 과정을 이수하려는 비 SOFA 상태 일본 및 외국 학생은 필수 시험 점수를 충족해야 하며 지방 정부 기관의 승인을 받아야 합니다. 해당 지역의 해당 기관은 지원자의 초기 선별검사를 감독하고 추천 학생의 목록을 UMGC에 전달합니다. 이 학생들은 브리지 프로그램에 입학하기 전 TOEFL, EIKEN (7년 이내) 또는 IELTS가 발행한 영어 능력에 대한 공인 인증서를 제출해야 합니다. 브리지 프로그램 과정을 성공적으로 이수하면, 학생들은 정규 UMGC 학부 과정을 수강할 수 있게 됩니다.
- 정규 직원(주 근로계약서 - MLC/간접 고용계약 - IHA) -필요 서류: 정규 고용을 표시한 승인서, 시험 점수 또는 표준화된 UMGC 아시아 브리지 평가 완수(시험, 에세이 및 인터뷰), 고등학교 성적 증명서(영어) 및/또는 졸업 증명서(영어).
- 미국 고등학교에 다녔거나 그리고/또는 미국 칼리지나 대학교에서 학위를 이수한 기타 외국인 학생.
이러한 국가들에서 교육을 받은 학생들은 영어 요건을 충족하며 능력 시험을 보지 않아도 됩니다.
- 학위를 받으려는 학생들은 TOEFL IBT 점수가 79 이상이거나, EIKEN Grade Pre-1 또는 기타 학위 추구 학생으로서 입학이 가능한 수준의 점수를 확보해야 합니다. 이 카테고리의 학생들은 임의의 UMGC 학부 과정을 이수할 수 있습니다.
