An undergraduate certificate in computer studies provides you with an introduction to the entire field of computer and information science. It is a credential providing you knowledge in a specific skill area and may serve as a foundation toward an associate or bachelor's degree.

One Required Course:

Choose one 9-credit sequence from the following:

Programming Focus
  • (3 Credits, CMSC 105)
  • (3 Credits, CMSC 115)
  • (3 Credits, CMSC 215)
A+ Net+ Focus
  • (3 Credits, CMIT 202)
  • (3 Credits, CMIT 265)
  • (3 Credits, CMIT 291) or (3 Credits, CMIT 320)
Digital Media/Interactive Design Focus
  • (3 Credits, CMST 290)
  • (3 Credits, CMST 295)
  • (3 Credits, CMST 308) or (3 Credits, DATA 200) or any lower-level computing course or three 1-credit computing courses
Computer Studies-Related Courses (6 credits):
  • Chosen from any CMIS, CMIT, CMSC, CMST, CSIA, DATA, or IFSM courses

 

Common Certificate Requirements
  • You must be admitted as a UMGC student.
  • You must complete a total of 18 credits, including at least 9 credits with UMGC.
  • You must complete all required coursework with a minimum grade of C (2.0) in all courses. Certificate courses may not be taken as pass/fail.
  • At least half of the total credits you use for any certificate must be earned through graded coursework.
  • You may not use the same course toward completion of more than one certificate. In cases where the same course is required for two certificates, you must replace that course with an approved substitute for the second certificate.
  • No more than half of the total credits for any certificate may be earned through credit by examination, prior-learning portfolio credit, internship/Workplace Learning credit, or transfer credit from other schools.
