In the fall of 2001, UMGC implemented a shared governance structure to ensure that its key stakeholders—students, faculty, and staff—have the opportunity to communicate with the university's leaders and bring issues to their attention. The Student Advisory Council (STAC) consists of 12 students, representing both undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States and overseas. These representatives provide a means for students to give input and be informed about significant institutional decisions. The elected representatives will participate in committee meetings and monthly STAC meeting calls from their homes via telecommunications technology. These members act in an advisory capacity to the university president, provost, deans, and other officials on behalf of all students.
STAC also selects representatives to serve on the overall University Advisory Council as part of UMGC's shared governance along with representatives that serve on the University System of Maryland Student Council and the Maryland Higher Education Commission Student Advisory Council. STAC members also meet bi-annually at the home campus so members will be invited to travel to UMGC Stateside twice in the academic year (approved expenses are covered by the university).
The Student Advisory Council meets regularly to discuss issues of importance to students and the university. Representatives from Asia have been selected by you, the UMGC Asia student body. These students are currently representing you. If you have any concerns or issues that affect the entire student body that you wish to be considered, please feel free to e-mail STAC at any time.
